COUNSELING SERVICES IN ROANOKE, VA
Whatever brought you here, there is a place for you. I work with people navigating difficult relationships, anxiety that won't settle, grief, trauma, and the kind of confusion that comes from living through something challenging. Every service includes real conversation and practical tools, built around where you are right now.
Jessica Niedermeier, LPC Licensed Professional Counselor, Virginia License #0701006196
Ideal for: People who have been in a relationship that left them questioning their own memory, minimizing what they experienced, or wondering why they can't just move on.
Part of You Knew Something Was Wrong Early On
But somewhere along the way you started to doubt that. You apologized when you weren't sure what you did wrong. You kept the peace to avoid the next storm. You wondered what you were doing wrong.
That confusion is not a character flaw, it is what happens when someone teaches you not to trust your own perception. In our sessions, you will start to understand what actually happened, why you were treated that way, and why your response made complete sense. People show you who they are. Believe them, and act accordingly.
Key Benefits:
- A clearer understanding of what happened, and why your confusion makes sense
- Tools for rebuilding trust in your own judgment and perception
- A steady, non-shaming space where your experience is taken seriously
You were chosen because of your good-hearted, forgiving nature, not because of weakness. That is where we start.
Your Mind Deserves to Rest
You have probably tried to logic your way out of it. Told yourself there is no reason to feel this way, that other people manage just fine. Or that you need to stop spiraling. But then the worry comes back anyway. Anxiety does not respond to willpower, it responds to understanding.
We will work on the patterns underneath the worry, not just the symptoms on the surface. Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, we will look at what thoughts are driving it, what your nervous system has learned to brace for, and why certain situations send everything into overdrive. You will leave sessions with tools you can actually use, not just a place to talk.
Key Benefits:
- Practical tools for managing anxious thoughts before they take over
- A clearer understanding of your triggers and what drives them
- Improved ability to stay grounded in situations that usually unsettle you
Feelings aren't facts, but they do serve a purpose. Understanding yours changes everything.
Ideal for: People carrying experiences that show up in their daily life in ways they don't always recognize as trauma.
You Don't Have to Keep Carrying This Alone
Trauma doesn't always look the way people expect. It isn't always a single dramatic event. Sometimes it is years of something quieter, a relationship, a childhood, a season of life that left marks you are still navigating. It shows up as hypervigilance, difficulty concentrating, a sense of being stuck, or a nervous system that can't settle even when things are okay.
This service provides a safe, paced space to work through what happened at a speed that feels manageable. Using trauma-focused approaches and CBT, we will address what is keeping you stuck and help you build a steadier relationship with the memories and responses that have been running the show. You do not have to relive everything to move through it.
Key Benefits:
- Reduced intensity of trauma-related symptoms and responses
- A clearer sense of what happened and how it has shaped you
- Tools for building safety and stability in your daily life
Experiences have a way of shaping us, but we don’t have to stay there.
Your Grief Doesn't Need a Reason to Be Real
Grief is not just for death. It is for the relationship that ended and changed everything. The version of your life you had to let go of. The person you used to be before something happened. The loss that didn't come with a funeral but still left a hole. Not all grief has a name that other people recognize, and that can make it feel even lonelier to carry.
This service gives your grief space, without a timeline, without pressure to be over it, and without anyone suggesting it wasn't that big of a deal. We will work through the specific loss you are navigating at a pace that feels right for you, in a space where what you are carrying is taken seriously from the start.
Key Benefits:
- Space to grieve without judgment or a timeline imposed on you
- Support for losses that are complicated, ambiguous, or hard to name
- Tools for moving through grief in a way that honors what it meant
All losses matter. There is no minimum threshold for grief to be real.
Ideal for: People in the middle of a significant change, a relationship ending, a career shift, an empty nest, who are struggling to find their footing in what comes next.
It's Okay Not to Have It Figured Out Yet
Change is hard even when it is the right kind. When your life shifts, by choice or by circumstance, it can leave you feeling unmoored, unsure of who you are in this new version of things. The future that felt familiar is gone, and the one ahead doesn't have a clear shape yet. That in-between space is genuinely disorienting.
This service meets you exactly where you are in that transition, without pressure to feel a certain way about it, and without rushing past the hard parts toward forced optimism. We will work through what you are carrying from the chapter that closed, build clarity about where you are heading, and develop the tools to move forward in a way that actually fits who you are now.
Key Benefits:
- Support for the emotional weight of change, even when the change was wanted
- Clarity about your values and direction in the next chapter
- Tools for building stability and resilience during uncertain seasons
Life transitions are not problems to solve. They are chapters to move through, at your own pace.
Faith Can Be Part of This Too
My faith shapes how I approach this work, the conviction that people are not defined by their hardest moments, and that healing is always possible. For clients who want that dimension woven into their sessions, I am glad to bring it in. That might look like prayer, scripture, or simply a shared framework for making sense of what you are going through.
For clients who do not share that background, this is still fully a space for you. You set the parameters of your care from the start, and I will follow your lead entirely. Faith is available here, not required.
Key Benefits:
- A space where your faith is welcomed, not set aside
- Integration of Christian values at your own pace and on your own terms
- Support that holds both your spiritual and emotional wellbeing
You do not have to choose between your faith and good counseling. Both are possible!

FREQUENTLY ASKED
Common Questions About My Services
NARCISSISTIC ABUSE RECOVERY
Select a question below.
Do I need to know for certain that my partner is a narcissist before reaching out?
No. Many people come in knowing something was deeply wrong without having a name for it yet. You do not need a diagnosis or a label, just the sense that what you experienced affected you, and that you want help making sense of it.
Is it normal to still have feelings for someone who hurt me?
Yes, and it is one of the most common things clients in this situation experience. Trauma bonding is real, and it does not mean you are weak or confused. It means you are human. We will work through that as part of the process.
ANXIETY THERAPY
Select a question below.
What if I do not know what is making me anxious?
That is completely okay, and actually very common. You do not need to arrive with a clear cause. Part of what we do together is figure out what is underneath the anxiety, which is often not obvious at first.
Will therapy make my anxiety worse before it gets better?
It can feel that way briefly as you start naming things you have been pushing down. But the work is paced carefully, and you will never be pushed faster than feels manageable. Most clients start to feel some relief within the first few sessions.
TRAUMA THERAPY
Select a question below.
Do I have to talk about everything that happened in detail?
No. You are always in control of what you share and when. Trauma-focused work does not require you to relive every detail to move forward. We go at your pace, and I will follow your lead throughout.
What if I am not sure what I experienced counts as trauma?
If something has stayed with you and is affecting how you feel or function, it counts. Trauma is not measured by how dramatic the event was, it is measured by its impact on you. That is where we start.
GRIEF COUNSELING
Select a question below.
What if my loss is not something people usually grieve, like the end of a relationship or a version of my life I had to let go of?
Those losses are exactly what this service is for. Grief is not reserved for death. If something mattered to you and it is gone, your grief is real and it deserves space.
How long does grief counseling usually take?
There is no standard timeline. Some clients work through a specific loss in a few months. Others come for longer, especially when grief is complicated or layered. We will go at whatever pace feels right for you, without pressure to be finished by a certain point.
LIFE TRANSITIONS COUNSELING
Select a question below.
What if I chose this change and I still feel like I am struggling?
That is more common than people admit. Wanted change is still change, and it still brings grief, uncertainty, and disorientation. You do not have to be in crisis to need support, feeling lost in a transition you chose is a completely valid reason to reach out.
Can this service help if I am not sure what direction I want to go next?
Yes. A big part of this work is building clarity, about your values, what matters to you now, and what kind of life you are actually trying to build. You do not need to have answers before you come in.
CHRISTIAN COUNSELING
Select a question below.
Do I have to incorporate faith into every session?
Not at all. You set the parameters entirely. Some clients want faith woven in consistently. Others bring it in when it feels relevant. I follow your lead, there is no script or requirement for how much or how little it comes up.
What if I am not sure my faith is strong enough or that I am a "good enough" Christian?
That kind of doubt is something many clients carry, and it is welcome here too. This is not a space for judgment about where you are in your faith. It is a space for you to show up exactly as you are.
